Brighten Your Skin With This Homemade Turmeric and Aloe Face Mask
Growing up, I was
plagued with acne, and even in my adulthood, I still get random pimples.
Through my ongoing efforts to clean out my kitchen and bathroom of toxic
chemicals and ingredients, I started a healing practice of making my own
skincare products. This turmeric and aloe face mask has worked wonders for me
as a spot treatment as well as an all-over skin brightening mask.
Turmeric can be very
effective at treating and preventing acne, as it removes excess oil and
possesses anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce the size of pores. It is
also high in vitamin C, which can help brighten dark spots and discoloration.
Like turmeric, aloe vera has antimicrobial properties that help reduce
breakouts. Aloe is also very calming for irritated skin.
In addition to these
two ingredients, I add lemon juice, which can help brighten skin, and rosehip
oil for its anti-aging and hydrating properties.
You can easily use a different oil if your
skin requires more or less hydration. Tea tree is a great substitute for oily
skin, and avocado or argan oils are great for extremely dry skin. I
occasionally use jojoba oil in this recipe as well, as it too is a great oil
for combination skin.
I hope you enjoy!
